Dominica: No More Pictures of Devastation Please!

A friend of mine Johanna Salton, stated that she would not be posting pictures of a “devastated Dominica”. She said there were enough pictures showing the state the country was in so she accompanied her statement with pictures showing people helping. What do you think? Would you prefer to see how the island looks or how others are helping the islands’ peoples?

Here’s her Facebook post…

Went to Dominica today in a second attempt to visit my Kalinago family on the Reserve but the pouring rain just did not permit landing.

Instead we landed at the cricket stadium in Roseau where supplies destined for the Reserve were loaded on to 3 vehicles , and will be delivered first thing in the morning- with the assurance of the Venezuelan ambassador in D’ca, I know these much needed supplies will get to the people they are destined for.

Big thank you to those who contributed or made donations ( you know who y’all are) and without whom my efforts would have amounted to naught. Thank you to SLHTA who has organized for a plane to deliver food and supplies to the Kalinago people over the weekend .

Our work however is not done as there are families who are still trapped , children who are now falling sick, elderly who are injured and need medical treatment but cannot leave what is left of their homes and so suffer and wait .

Let us keep them and all Dominicans in our thoughts and prayers for the situation is grim. But I believe that in unity there is strength and so I hope.

I honestly don’t know when I will see my Kalinago family but am comforted by the thought that as long I have strength and breath, they will be ok.
