Change – an act we all crave whether it be in our careers, relationships and general standard of life yet a few seldom have the courage to do. We see the change we want yet we are held back by fear and uncertainty. Complacency is so comfortable, so familiar; change is a difference we’re yet to fully comprehend. However, if we don’t change for ourselves, who will?
This nation seeks change, not enough in my eyes, we would love to have better politics, jobs, relationships, less crime and the list is endless. We speak about change so much that if change had ears, they would ring into deafness. People are afraid to climb to change and fail to recognize it is an everyday conscious effort that is challenging in most cases but absolutely necessary if we want a better life. Change is a word that has feet whether it moves like a bus that never runs out of gas or a slug – change is a journey and it takes movements and not just words for us to get to that destination.
Let’s start with our mentality. Change starts with a thought that leads to an action. Don’t know how to start? Here are 5 steps I found useful in a Forbes article titled
“Change Your Life In 5 Easy Steps” By Susannah Breslin
TIP #1: Quit something.
The best way to start something is to quit something. Nature abhors a vacuum, and I’ve discovered careers dislike idling.
TIP #2: Start something.
Here’s the thing about starting something. You can start anything. You can do it once and never do it again.
TIP #3: Stop thinking.
Stuck? Your mind is not your friend. Your ally is your body.
TIP #4: Kill your excuse.
What’s your number one excuse?
How accustomed are we to people merely talking about change? Instead of becoming the change we wish to see. This is a cycle we need to break in this generation if not for ourselves, let’s do it for our children. Let our sparks spread throughout bloodline until it rages so wild that the darkness of others will be lit. It’s time for us to accept that change starts today with me and you.
