The Air Passenger Duty (APD), a tax charged on every airline ticket out of the United Kingdom, negatively affects Caribbean communities, tourism and travel.

It caused a marked increase in the cost of flights from the United Kingdom to Caribbean destinations. Due to its method of calculation, it has also become cheaper to travel to more distant locations in the United States of America than to Caribbean destinations. Caribbean destinations are placed at a competitive disadvantage to rival resorts in the United States of America.
