BVI Biwater Desalination Plant on target

Date:

Caribbean news. BVI Minister of Communications and Works, Hon. Mark Vanterpool reports, ‘Yesterday afternoon, I went on a tour of the Biwater Desalination Plant in Paraquita Bay, along with Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Communications and Works Anthony McMaster, as work continues to improve the supply of potable water in the Territory.

The tour was conducted by Biwater’s Richard White, who explained the work being done to ensure that this project is completed before the end of this year.
Biwater has indicated that it is well on course to start providing the Territory with 2.3 million imperial gallons of water per day.

We saw workers installing the massive pipelines running from the sea to the plant, we saw where the actual treatment plant will be located and we visited the main building where the chemicals and operators rooms are located, noting with interest the energy conservation methods with the use of LED and sky lights.

Two of the three generators to be used by the BVI Electricity Corporation to supply power to the plant are already on site.
According to Biwater, they are a month away from completing the work and commissioning the plant and by October 1, 2014, they are expected to start supplying the Government with water.
