Chef Shanese Phoenix- Chef and owner of “The Bakers Home” supports the Caribbean Cultural Heritage Food program from Barbados.
29 year old Shanese has had a passion for cooking and baking from an early age. She got her first taste of cooking and food preparation as a member of The Barbados 4-H Foundation Catering Center.
In an effort to upgrade her skills and knowledge, she pursued further training at The Samual Jackman Prescod Polytechnic and The Barbados Community College (Hotel Pommarine).
Shanese participated in a number of national competitions in an effort to hone her skills and knowledge; gaining an Incentive Award for Culinary Arts, The Landship Award, 5 Golds, 8 Silvers and 19 Bronze awards; Also being a nominee for the Prime Minister Award in 2016.
With 8 years of experience in the culinary field she is now a trainer (volunteer) with The Barbados
4-H Foundation, where she has been sharing her skills and knowledge with young aspiring chefs.
One of the highlights of her journey was being selected to be a part of the Barbados team participating in “The Taste of the Caribbean” 2018 in Miami, Florida. In 2019 the Team captured a gold medal and the coveted title of Caribbean Team of the Year, where Shanese won a silver award in the Individual Beef Competition. Later that year she also placed second in the Pastry Chef of the Year Competition under the auspices of the BHTA.
Shanese is also a featured chef in the elegant hotel cookbook “Taste”.
She had the honor for being one of the featured chefs for The Barbados Food & Rum Festival 2019 (Epicure).
She was selected once again in 2020 to train with The Barbados Culinary Team. However, the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic resulted in the cancellation of this activity.
Once again she was selected to be a featured chef in The Barbados Food & Rum Festival 2022 (Feed the Future).
