Adventure Anguilla was created in 2006 as a week-long outdoors programme that seeks to raise awareness amongst Anguilla’s youth about the importance of and interconnections among the island’s land, marine, and coastal ecosystems.
The 2011 day camp focussed on physical outdoor activities which gave participants an opportunity to explore Anguilla’s natural environment and to learn more about the island’s history. Activities during this year’s camp were facilitated by the ANT staff as well as by Mr. Lenox Proctor who led the group on a coastal hike from Blackgardens to Shoal Bay and a circuit hike from Little Bay to Blackgarden and back to Little Bay. Mr. Kenn Banks took the participants on a walking tour of Anguilla’s historic Lower Valley during which they learned about Anguilla’s cultural and built heritage, dating back from the time of slavery through to the present day. ANT Marine and Coastal Conservation Officer, Ms Janeczka Richardson, led a night session about Anguilla’s nesting sea turtles at Meads Bay. The four day camp also included a scavenger hunt, outdoor games, and swims and snorkels at Shoal Bay East, Little Bay, and Rendezvous Bay.
The ANT is grateful for the support and assistance of the ALHCS Environmental Club coordinators, Mrs. Maxine Alonzo, Ms Joselyn Theophile-Richardson, and Ms Shanika Webster.
