George Carruthers, a Black man served as principal investigator for the Lunar Surface Ultraviolet Camera, in the Naval Research Centre Washington D.C. in the photo he discusses the instrument with Apollo 16 Commander John Young, right. Dr Carruthers received numerous awards for his inventions in space technology but is hardly known throughout the world.
