Malahari Campbell is the winner
The talent show which aims to showcase professional artists and up and coming acts was modelled after the popular TV program Britain’s got talent and drew in a crowd of over 300 hundred people thanks to the efforts made by Osheane Chambers and NTA Deptford youth ministry who coordinated the event.
The competition was filled with amazing talents with categories ranging from; children under 12s, youth aged between 12-27 years and adults aged 28 and over. Caribbean News network CaribDirect’s director of lifestyle and social affairs Sherika Miller attended the event and witnessed the outstanding performances and contributions from all the talents in each category.
The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement; Flags, hand kerchiefs, banners, you name it were all out and up in the air! A few highlights of the night included the down-to-earth Marky T and the hilarious Pheonia Bailey, not to mention the acclaimed motivational speaker Nathaniel Peat.
In addition, up and coming acts thrilled the crowd through the use of singing, poetry, dance and acting. Malahari triumphed with her singing of a popular Mary Mary song “I just can’t give up now” and ability to engage the crowds; she is truly a deserving winner.
Judged by local professionals, Rev. Byron Burke, choir director, vocal coach and professional singer; Michelle John, and music connoisseurcan; Leslee Constable, they provided the acts with constructive and humorous feedback that was well received with the audiences. The show was indeed lively and ‘on fire’ all the way through to the end and a refreshing way to enjoy a weekend.
According to the organisers of the show, “Deptford got talent is not only a place where young people can demonstrate and explore gifting and talents, it’s a great opportunity for networking with professional Artists, motivational speakers and local businesses.
Moreover, the money raised is used for the furtherance of the spiritual and personal development of the Youth Ministry via discipleship programmes and community outreach programmes. Not to mention providing the youth ministry with the capability of facilitating projects aimed at reaching the local community.”
In the future, Deptford’s got talent aims to continue to facilitate young people in reaching their full potential and making a difference in the community by reaching a wider audience by going into other communities such as Lewisham, Brixton and Tooting.
CaribDirect would like to congratulate all the contestants for their hard work. Special mention to Osheane Chambers who is a First Year Information Technology Management for Business Student, and ITMB Ambassador for E-skills UK for his outstanding efforts and involvement with the local community.
