Fashion news. On Saturday 1st November the Fashion Designers’ & Craft Makers’ Young Designer Awards was held at the Pullman London Hotel St. Pancras. Presented by hosts Annik Rau and Lovelda Smith; families, friends, fashion lovers and the press alike gathered together at the upscale Pullman Hotel for what was an impressive and exciting evening.

This inspirational event was established by London knitwear designer Joanna Marcella; the aim is to provide an inspirational, multicultural platform for dynamic, young fashion designers. The FDC Young Designer Awards help’s to raise the profile of exceptionally gifted avant-garde designers.

The show hosted the FDC Young Designer Award, FDC Emerging Designer Award and the Radical Designer Award and the panel of special guest judges were: Speaker and Presenter Annik Rau, Business Women and Entrepreneur Nina Malone and Writer and Journalist Sara Khan.

We are delighted to announce that first place went to Claire Ozee who produced an avant-garde design inspired by the Great Gatsby. Second place went to Chelsea Visda who represented the fragility of the Great Gatsby characters and the 1920’s through her sewing techniques.

First place Emerging Designer Award went to Christina Hallett-Yo?ung who is a Contour Fashion graduate that specialises in lingerie. Her crimson collection is named ‘Red Reliance’ her collection depicts elegance meets sophisticated power dressing. Second place was awarded to Naomi Thompson who stole the show her amazing costume was inspired by the Ziegfeld Follies girls.

First place Radical Designer Award for designers over 21 years, went to Aisha Enashdias she created a remarkable collection that captured the judge’s’ attention and second place was awarded to Münüse A?agil her collection is entitled War Bride which had an amazing conceptual luxurious look.

Joanna Marcella says ‘We’ve found a great bunch of new, fresh and innovative young designers and we seek to support and encourage them as much as we can, through our Designer Development Initiative. The Designer Development Initiative is an attempt to support aspiring multi-cultural fashion designers and aims to make a significant difference to their economic well-being, by offering support, mentoring and motivational sessions.’

The FDC Young Designer Award and the Designer Development Initiative provide an opportunity for participants to network and promote themselves. The Radical Awards winners will start preparing their presentation to put before the panel of directors at Vancouver Fashion Week.

The Young Designer Award winners and Emerging Designer Award winners will début their collection in New York City. The Young Designer ended with the Collection showcase of emerging international fashion designers and models from Russia, France and the USA.
