Entertainment news. For the week before Xmas, #FilmCaribbeanUK brings you a Caribbean film Sankofa Televisualfestival packed full of UK and European premieres! With three headlining films from Antigua/Jamaica, St. Maarten and Barbados, there is a whole range on screen covering action, drama, comedy and even supernatural thrills to keep you entertained.

This short season magically transports a mini festival from the Caribbean’s silver screens all the way to London to warm up those  winter evenings.  See details below.

Monday 15 Dec 6pm – “PAYDAY” – Picturehouse Cinema, Stratford

This youth comedy-drama showcases a raw slice of Caribbean community life all within one day in Barbados. Two best friends (Romie and Pack) trying to escape their boring jobs and demanding families, put their entire salaries into a down payment on a car repair garage. But setting up in business is hilariously complicated by crazy ex-girlfriends, violent drug men and eccentric villagers …

This intriguing drama thriller tells the story of Johnny, a prisoner who is about to get an early release due to political changes in the Caribbean country of St. Maarten. Johnny has fallen on hard times in trying to support his family and decides to rob a jewellery store – an act which goes terribly wrong. Some time later Maria, the widow of the victim of the robbery, learns of Johnny’s potential pardon and release from prison and then goes to extreme measures to stop that release from taking place. But those measures have consequences …

This supernatural thriller is a modern story, filled with Caribbean folklore, about a young married couple on the verge of losing their home. Their luck changes when they discover an ancient vase and sell it to an antique dealer but then strange things begin to happen. Is the ancient relic a blessing or a curse … ?

Filmed in Antigua and starring the legendary Jamaican actor Carl Bradshaw (The Harder They Come) and Jeff Stewart (The Bill).
