In the dead of night I sit up in bed and I ask why did I choose to go to UWI. I honestly didn’t know how to answer that question.
Many students choose to go there because of the “FREEDOM”. For those who do not know what I am talking about, I am referring to the drinking, liming, card playing and the freedom away from your parents.
The other reason is the pressure from your parents. You were groomed since you were a little kid into believing after you graduate from high school your next step in life in to go to the University of the West Indies to get a degree and then get a job.
Some go there because of the prestige of the university and some go there because despite many options available to them, most of their friends end up UWI and they want to be around there friends.
Now whatever your reason for coming to the University I currently go to there are a few things you know before you choose to register her. The first is university life is different from high school life you are supposed to be at a mature level. You have to adapt to University Life or be isolate from it and its culture (Charles Darwin). The university has many
cliques it is essential that you find yours. And the most important thing is for god sakes do not forget what you came there to do in the first place “To obtain a Tertiary level Education” If you think it was hard getting in try getting out”
My questions for you are:
Do you agree that UWI is what I claim it to be?
Have you any more reason why Students want to attend UWI?
