Whitney Houston Dies

Superstar singer and actress Whitney Houston has died at the age of 48. Reports are coming in that the artist who is heralded as one of the queen’s of pop music died earlier today (February 11, 2012). The news which has been confirmed by her publicist Kristen Foster comes amid the artist’s public struggle with drug and alcohol abuse.

The cause of Houston’s death is still unconfirmed at the time of press. Known for her powerful voice, Houston’s peak came in the 1980’s and 90’s with a string of hit albums. As the golden girl of the music industry she also starred in numerous film roles including ‘The Bodyguard’ and ‘Waiting to Exhale.’

Undoubtedly  an inspiration and influence for many female and male artists who came after her, numerous singer’s sounds have tried to emulate Houston’s trademark sound. As the news filtered around the world, public figures and fellow artists took to the web to pay their condolences. Jamal Edwards who founded the Urban media platform SBTV took to Twitter stating “R.I.P Whitney Houston. 🙁 – timeless music. Such a shame man,” while the official VEVO Youtube channel paid homage to the star by posting one of her best known hits tweeting: “The Greatest Love http://vevo.ly/dTSTZ5 R.I.P. Whitney Houston.
