What Is Your Legacy?

Last weekend the world witnessed the people of the United Kingdom celebrating Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee. Iconic international artists bequeathed Her Majesty with graceful-meaningful words, comedy and concerts. World and commonwealth leaders also paid homage-thanking her for the 70 years of courteous graceful manner in which she served her country and theirs. Street parties and shin dings were held nationwide, and of course Prince Louis endeared many around the world with his cheekiness. Through her service the Queen will leave a legacy that will hopefully benefit members of her family, future generations and society.

Did you know you could leave a legacy that can benefit your lineage and impact society forever? According to Merriam Webster’s Dictionary one of the meanings for the word legacy is ‘something transmitted by or received from an ancestor or predecessor or from the past’. In light of the above meaning, what would you like to transmit? The greatest example of legacy transmission using the above interpretation in my view is Jesus Christ. Jesus through the Bible  transmits the way of showing us how to live an abundant, fruitful life in God.

Other great examples include Martin Luther King, a Baptist Minister and amazing, peaceful social activist who led civil right movements effectively, and who’s voice is active to this day. There’s also Jane Elliot, an American lecturer who continues to work tirelessly in her 80’s educating American and international governments, schools etc to understand that there’s only one race (the human race), Jane emphasises unity irrespective of skin colour.

You may not be in the public eye, but God has given us all something to bring about positive change. I’ve identified part of my legacy through the creation of my eco, sustainable organisation called Female Dignity, www.femaledignity.co.uk I want my headstone to read that ‘She loved God first then loved her neighbour as herself – Mark 12:30-31’ This work began in an open air field in 2015.

Start right where you are today, what is that passion in your heart, what is it that grieves you when you hear or read about it? What is that thing that you cannot put down? Those could be indicators that you’ve been called to bring about positive change. You may not have the financial or Human Resources at the moment but write it down and make it clear so that those who read it can help you, as you do so God will open doors and provide the help that you need.

You may never get an earthly reward for your work, or be celebrated like Queen Elizabeth but rest assured if you do your part, your legacy will be transmitted to others and grow, and the reward that you’ll receive in Heaven will far outweigh anything you’d have received on the earth. As wonderful as last weekend’s joyous occasion was, nothing can outstrip the crown God has for you…get planning and leave a legacy, you can do it!

So until next time, remember you are beautiful and wonderfully made – With love Amanda x
