Home African Caribbean Two headed sheep baffles Grenadian authorities

Community news. Mere hours after celebrating Boxing Day, residents on the sister isles of Petite Martinique woke up to stunning news that a sheep had given birth to a two headed lamb.

The extremely uncommon episode was one, which shocked the owner of the sheep, Mr and Mrs Randolph Bethel, residents of the community known as the village. The sheep, which had delivered two normal litters before apparently gave birth early last week Saturday morning to two lambs. However both died. But the one item of curiosity was a ewe which was born with two properly formed heads but one body which had a split to its back.

With over forty 40 years experience of tending animals this was their first such experience. “When my husband came home with the sheep in a bucket from the garden at Stepestash , I was stunned and stood speechless “ said wife Cathy-Ann. “ In all my decades of involvement with animals this sight was extremely astonishing and inconceivable.”

When asked to comment on this unusual occurrence head of the Agriculture and Veterinary Department, Edwin Duncan said he can’t recall such an experience on the sister isles. He pointed out that they were cases where animals would give birth to young-ones resembling other animals but not one with two clearly distinct heads. This he suggested maybe as a result of a deformity. Article courtesy http://www.thegrenadainformer.com
