Trinidad and Tobago put on a great show yesterday morning at Heathrow’s Terminal 5 Arrival Hall. Masqueraders in flamboyant costumes created a stir when they came dancing into the view of travellers and others to the tune of steelpan.

A crowd quickly formed enveloping the group into a performance circle and the costumed dancers obliged moving in time to the frenetic rhythm of the steelpan. Anyone watching could have been mistaken for thinking that they had just arrived at the Parade of the Bands in Port-of-Spain instead of at Heathrow Airport.

The Trinidad and Tobago Cultural Performance at Heathrow’s Terminal 5 was carried out under the patronage of the Trinidad and Tobago High Commission in London. His Excellency Garvin Nicholas said, “Today’s performance will give the Olympic athletes and the rest of the world just a sample of what we are about in Trinidad and Tobago. If they want to know more they need to come to the Trinidad and Tobago Culture Fest in Kilburn.”

The Cultural Performance took on the form of a Meet and Greet in the Terminal 5 Arrival Hall. Its objective was to entice visitors to the Trinidad and Tobago Culture Fest which will take place at Kilburn’s Tricycle Theatre from the 26th July to 25th August 2012. Judging from the broad smiles from the audience and the constant flash of the cameras, the presentation was well received.

The morning’s highlight came when a bemused looking contingent from the Bahamian Olympic team arrived just as the performance had ended. Several members of the team managed to take advantage of the situation and steal a quick photo with a few of our costumed girls.
