In carnival news, one can say that it is overdue, but as soon as carnival ends it begins. Recently, there has been a surge of activity among the stakeholders of carnival not only in Trinidad but across the Caribbean.

In the days and weeks gone by, Carnivals in Toronto, Antigua and Barbados have just concluded successfully, with local artiste such as Machel Montano and Patrice Roberts from Trinidad attending.

Local Trinidadian carnival bands such as Yuma, Tribe and Fantasy have all launched their 2014 carnival Bands, with their new collection of costumes. Steel pan bands are being saddled together and in the workshops and warehouses on the south and north of the island.

Wire bending and welding are being done to create gigantic displays.  Even now on radio stations we are hearing local beats such as “de thing buff” and “start de jamin” are paving the way for carnival 2014.

Artiste and song writers are composing and producing singles to shock, amaze and entice the carnival crowd to party, celebrate and leave whatever establishment or ‘Fete” entertained.

The Minister of Multiculturalism, and Tourism, respectively, as well as the national Carnival Commission are putting things in place to facilitate foreigners to our shores, ensuring that they are safe and they have the time of their lives.

I myself cannot wait for carnival 2014 as it will be the most competitive carnival of all time. How? you may ask, well, the six time band of the year Champion Brian MacFarlane has retired from the event, leaving the others to scramble for “top dog” position; as well as the old warrior “” versus the New upstart “Machel Montano” to see who is really the King of Soca.

I am hitting the gym, getting fit, and saving my money to buy my costumes and go to my “fetes” for CARNIVAL 2014. What are you going to do?
