Bad
It is no secret that Sean Paul does not get the rating he deserves from his fellow Jamaicans. Some may say that this dispels the claims that Jamaicans are “foreign minded” and that we do not appreciate what we have until foreigners are all over it, as is the case with Bob Marley. Sean Paul has worked hard over the years and is probably one of the most recognized Jamaican artists. He has done collaborations with the likes of Beyonce Knowles, Keisha Cole and Eve. He has won and been nominated for various international awards. Despite this some Jamaicans still are not 100% feeling Sean Paul.
What could be the cause of this? Could it be due to the fact that, Reggae and
Dancehall music emerged from the hardships of the city and many of these persons may argue that Sean Paul does not know what it is like growing up in the trenches of the city. So how dare he reap the success of the poor in this country? But then the same could be said about Wayne Marshall and he gets no fight due to where he originates. Then some might argue that Wayne may be from uptown but he is of a darker shade than Sean so he can cross it. Then what about Shaggy? He is not from the inner-cites of Kingston and his light, bright and damn near white. Then what is it then about Sean Pau why he is not getting the ‘ratings’ he deserves? The likes of Popcaan, Bounty Killer, Vybz Kartel, Beenie Man and others get all the attention at home, despite them not getting the attention Sean Paul gets abroad. But whatever the reasons are why Sean is not getting love at home, it does not seem to matter anymore as he seems to be over trying to find that out and trying to win over Jamaicans.
Good for you Sean.
