Executives of Qualfon’s Mexico Headquarters, who are on a one week working visit to Guyana, were introduced to President Bharrat Jagdeo during a courtesy visit yesterday at his State House residence. Among them was Chief Sales and Marketing Client Services Officer Abelardo Cruz.

They were accompanied by the company’s Chief Operations Manager Alejandra Romero and Call Centre Manager Guyana Luana Persaud who conveyed their gratitude to the Head of State to for his patronage to the development of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in Guyana. The ICT sector is emerging rapidly and President Jagdeo is optimistic that it will be one of the leading sectors where the bulk of job creation and disposable income will be generated.

The People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Government is facilitating the laying of a fibre optic cable from Brazil, which, when complete will facilitate cheaper and more reliable access to the internet. President Jagdeo had noted in the past that fibre optic cables will allow the call centre industry to generate up to 25,000 jobs. A fibre optic cable will pass through Essequibo and all the way to Charity that will produce thousands more jobs in call centres.

ca has already embarked on expansion and early next year is expected to accommodate a staff complement of 660 at another branch on the East Coast of Demerara. This was according to Persaud who spoke with the Government Information Agency (GINA). She noted that the branch is at present being outfitted and work will be executed in two phases.
Qualfon has an international presence in almost every country in Latin America, the United States of America (USA), Europe and Asia with a quick response to any service requirement via telephone, fax, web, email and Short Message Service (SMS).

The company is the third centre outside of Mexico. It officially began operations in November 2005 with an initial 50 agents. The centre has since grown in reputation as the second biggest Qualfon Centre with respectable working relations with the Guyana Government. The company started as a rented operation in a section of the Beterverwagting commercial building and grew into a centre occupying the entire building with a total of 1,200 employees, all of whom are Guyanese.

Qualfon currently contributes to Guyana’s economy by using local vendors for supplies, maintenance and transportation. The center’s achievements led to it winning the Best Partner Award by clients.
