Notting Hill Carnival 2012 now in its 48th year was yet again another resounding success…well as far as the weather and level of crime were concerned. The event was blessed with brilliant sunshine with a smattering of light showers but generally cool somewhat tropical weather.

The crime situation also was somewhat calm as there were a mere 152 arrests mainly for public disorder and drug offences compared to 172 for the same period last year; and three non-fatal stabblings.

Metropolitan Police were out in force to ensure reveller safety as they made their presence felt with a 7000 strong contingent. They were literally everywhere and generally made the event feel much safer.

Commander Christine Jones told the BBC: “It is relatively crime free when you think how many people are here and what the potential could be but actually, this is a London celebration of a diverse culture.

“People come here to have fun and we’re here to support that.”

CaribDirect was on hand to follow the many beautiful floats and capture the lustre of the final day’s parade. We are pleased to share the photos with you here. Enjoy!
