Tuesday, March 27 2012 marked the beginning of the second season of Mission Catwalk. The program aired for the first time last year, where a group of upcoming designers competed for various prizes, including a chance to have their collection featured at the Miami Fashion Week catwalk.
Each week the contestants were given a task, where they had to create different outfits within a short period of time. Shenna Carby, from Dehnam Town, Kingston won the first season of Mission Catwalk.
This season, Mission Catwalk has gotten bigger and better and has ventured outside the borders of Jamaica to reach, other Caribbean countries. There are 15 contestants making it to this season’s television stage of the competition, some of which hail from places in the Caribbean, which include, Belize, Trinidad and Tobago and others.
The first challenge tested the innovativeness of the designers. They were presented with models wearing ‘nighties’ and bed slippers. The designers were to make an outfit from the nighties; however the nighties were to remain on the models while they were being transformed into outfits suited for a garden party. That challenge determined which five designers were to get cut from the competition and which 15 were to remain in the competition.
Compared to last season, this season of Mission Catwalk, has seen some changes. As said previously, the competition has expanded to include competitors from other Caribbean countries, while last year, the competitors were all Jamaicans.
Also this year, instead of Miami Fashion Week, the winner will display his/her collection at the London Fashion Week. Finally, only the winner will display his/her collection at Fashion Week, as opposed to last year where, the two finalists, got the opportunity to have their designs shown at the Fashion Week, the fashion week being the final challenge, from which the winner was decided upon.
