She’s already got two pageant crowns to her name – Miss Mini Point and Villa 1998 and Miss Antigua Talented Teen 2007 and last weekend, Kimberly King added Miss Parish Queen 2011 to those titles.

She stood out among six other contestants to win the title during the pageant held last Saturday at the Dean William Lake Cultural Centre.

King, who represented St John, told OBSERVER she was very proud to get the opportunity to represent the parish of her birth (she hails from the Point and Villa Community).

“I am happy that I won,” she said. “I was really excited because I had worked really hard. I put in a lot of work into it. At the moment I was announced winner, I was just thinking that my work paid off.

“Also I’d like to say thank you to those persons in my parish who came out and supported the show. I also want to thank the other delegates.”

First runner-up was Miss St Mary Karena Alexander and the second runner-up spot went to Miss St George Arlett Chastanet, who also received the Island Photo Miss Photogenic award. Miss St Peter Helena Hewlett received the Xtreme Health and Fitness Gym body award; she was also judged Miss Congeniality.

The Honourable Asot Michael Crystal Award for Debating Excellence went to Miss St Paul Lydia Bird. Miss Barbuda Ria Pluck completed the competing cast.

Segments in which the delegates competed were interview, a verbal presentation on their parish, swimwear, performing talent and folkwear – all under the theme “The Spirit Within.”

The performing talent segment of the show featured a spectacular presentation from highly skilled Alexander, Miss St Mary, while Miss St Phillip Rina Lewis had the audience laughing with her humorous skit.

Another standout in this segment was King, who, in a beautiful black evening gown, gave a very soulful rendition of To God Be the Glory.

King told OBSERVER she now has her eyes on the Queen of Carnival crown.

“I hope to use Miss Parish Queen as a stepping stone for Queen of Carnival. So I did one level of preparation at Miss Parish Queen pageant and I know it’s going to be a whole other level with the Carnival Queen,” she said.

Next on the pageant scene for King is a trip to Nevis in August next year to represent Antigua in the Miss Caribbean Culture pageant.

Meantime she’s scheduled to be in Montserrat December 23 to represent the country in the regional female calypso competition.
