The month of March is Women’s History Month; a celebration of women’s contributions to history, culture and society. It has been observed in the month of March in the United States since 1987. Also in March (March 8th), is International Women’s Day. Combining these two important themes gave inspiration to the observation of key women who helped build the 60- year foundation of Reggae.
From producers such as Sonia Pottinger, to hit-makers such as Marcia Griffiths, to record label founders such as Patricia ‘Miss Pat’ Chin, women play pivotal roles in the industry which is celebrated in the Women of Reggae calendar 2022.
The female focus for the month of March is Queen Ifrica.
Using her powerful vocal platform, Queen Ifrica recorded three powerful LPs including the impactful Montego Bay, released by VP Records in 2009. The enduring “Lioness On The Rise” and “Coconut Shell” are fan favorites. The follow-up album, Climb, from 2017 includes the magnificent combination with Damian Marley, “Truversation.
