Caribbean news. St Lucia formally opened celebrations for the 35th Anniversary of Independence at the St Francis Church of Assasi in Stratford on Sunday 16th February 2014.
High Commissioner for St Lucia, His Excellency Dr. Ernest Hilaire and High Commission staff were supported by a large number of nationals and friends. Presiding over the service was St Lucia’s very own Monsignor Patrick Anthony who set aside other engagements to attend and officiate at this most auspicious occasion.
This church service marked the beginning of a series of events commemorating 35 years of independence from the British Empire. Tomorrow Wednesday 19th February, Dr Morgan Dalphinis will speak about the “Role of Kweyol in the Development of Saint Lucian Identity and Politics. The lecture begins at 6pm.
