You can tell that Romaine Hemmings has a passion for teaching. He is from Jamaican but now teaching in the US.
We often hear that Jamaican teachers are poorly trained but teachers like Hemmings are examples of the opposite. Why would recruiters from developed countries seek Jamaican teachers to teach in their schools?
Perhaps because many Jamaican teachers have managed to work miracles even in the face of lack of resources and declining support from the government. There is also a positive coming out of hundreds of Jamaican leaving the shores of Jamaica for more greener pastures. Many of these teachers continue to share the Jamaican culture with the students and fellow counterparts. This has in someway helped to paint a more positive picture about Jamaicans; they are hardworking, smart and fun to be around.
In the video below Hemmings talks about his experience teaching in the United States.
