As Jamaica’s 50th Independence celebrations get into high gear and the official calendar picks up steam, the National Domino League invites domino players throughout all regions of the UK to enter the competition and participate in the camaraderie of a great Jamaican community-building exercise – playing dominoes.
In such a significant year for the UK – Jamaica’s 50th, the Olympics and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee – the committee is honoured and privileged to have been commissioned by the Jamaican High Commission to host this event.
‘Jamaicans and the wider Caribbean Diaspora, will be truly spoilt for choice this year and I hope everyone will include the National Domino League in their diaries, along with other events, to ensure that they do not miss out on any activities,’ says the Chairperson of the NDL , Anita Witter. ‘ Domino players are a vibrant mix of men and women, young, middle-aged and senior citizens from different part of the Caribbean, but all sing the same tune of social activities – DOMINOES! This event is open to all domino groups and teams, the length and breadth of the UK. The National Domino League is using the ‘coded’ format.
Prominent Caribbean Food company – Grace Foods, which is celebrating its 90th Year, is the main co-sponsor of the National Domino League, and have been faithful sponsors over the years. The National Domino League event is delighted to ensure that their sponsors’ products and services are projected to the UK Caribbean Community throughout the UK. The organisers are hoping at least 40 teams will participate in this tournament, covering 4 regions nationally.
