Ja lose to Trinidad at NORCECA Women’s Beach Volleyball

JAMAICA’S Beach Volleyball duos of Cherine Richards and Cheryl Daley, and Tsahai Williams and Nardrake Hutchinson went down to Trinidad and Tobago in the second round of the NORCECA Inter Zonal Beach Volleyball Continental Cup Olympic Qualifier in Costa Rica last week.

Jamaica were among five competing teams as the Caribbean skills are matched up against Central American talent. The competition kicked off last Friday following the official opening ceremony on Thursday evening.

In their first matches, the Jamaica team one duo of Daley/Richards and team players Williams/Hutchinson went down to Nicaragua 4-0 in their respective matches.

NCA-B defeated JAM-A 2-0 (21-13, 21-10), NCA-A defeated JAM-B (21-17, 21-6), NCA-A defeated JAM-A 2-0 (21-17, 21-12), NCA-B defeated JAM-B 2-1 (21-12, 17-21, 15-6).

In the second round of play, the experienced Trinidadian team of Phillip/Dyette won 15-10 over Daley/Richards in the losers bracket of the double-elimination tournament.

Earlier, Daley/Richards had defeated the Trinidad B team to earn the right to face their fellow countrymen.

Trinidad and Tobago 2, Jamaica 1

JAM-A defeated TRI-B 2-0 (21-18, 21-6), TRI-A defeated JAM-B 2-0 (21-19, 21-18), GS: TRI-A defeated JAM-A (15-10)

The other Caribbean teams participating in the competition include Barbados, Curacao, Costa Rica, Panama, Guatemala, El Salvador, and The Cayman Islands.
