Caribbean news. Beauty’s latest trend is growing on many that even the celebrities are promoting it. Goodbye bare armpits as this summer it is all about the hair – many women are now embracing their underarm hair and even spicing it up with colour. A surprise to many who are accustomed to the norm being clean shaved armpits.
Once upon a time (which wasn’t so long ago) – people would turn up their noses if they saw women with hairy underarms. Now it is the in-thing to do so much that people are posting pictures of their underarms on Social Media.
This brings to mind Madonna’s insta photo which she posted showing armpit hair in 2014 captioned “Long hair… Don’t Care! #artforfreedom #rebelheart #revolutionoflove.” Females feel liberated to say that they never liked shaving/waxing/ removing their armpit hair and this movement gave them the courage they needed to let it grow and still wear sleeveless.
As expected, some people aren’t buying into this trend and who can blame them? The first women’s razor was introduced in 1915 and even since many women have been keeping it nude. It will be difficult for many to accept this trend now especially since nude armpits are viewed as “sanitary” and sexy by women and men.
Some negative comments called the trend “extremely grotesque”, “stupid”, “petty”, “plain nasty”. Even some feminists commented that they do not support this trend. One commenter even pleaded to women who are into this to keep it private by not holding their arms up.
I posted this article “ Proud #NoShave Armpit Hair Movement is Growing Among Young Women” I read on FB to get a reaction from my friends; only one person actually had something positive to say, one stated it was nasty, another stated “A bit much. If you ain’t gonna shave your armpit then wear clothes that cover them. If you like sleeveless, halter tops, strapless and spaghetti strap blouses/ dresses then get rid of the hair. It’s that simple. Don’t nobody wanna see that.”
What do you think?
