Let us take a look at the entertaining side of the campaign trail. Firstly, let us look at the JLP advertisement, about the temper of the opposition leader. This advertisement, like the ones in 2007 attacks the vociferous personality of Mrs. Simpson Miller. It accuses her of being too loud and uses the slogan of the People’s National Party (PNP) to its advantage. In the latter part of the ad, the voice of a lady was urging the opposition leader, to “tun dung di ting” because “her personality too loud”. The first time I saw this ad, my brother and I were watching and my brother was almost on the ground.
The PNP, took offense to this ad, saying it is a cheap shot at their leader, and that, for a party that says it respects women, this ad by the Jamaica Labour Party certainly does not depict a love for women.
Now on the one of the ads by the People’s National Party; this ad attacks the claim by the Jamaica Labour Party that they love and respect women. These ad shows, Bobby Montague, Everald WAR-mington and Pernel Charles on different occasions squaring off with women and some may say even disrespecting, one of those women being the leader of the opposition.
In terms of entertainment, I have to say, I give the People’s National Party (PNP) the edge on the advertisement side, however, in terms of the jingles, the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) ting shot out. “Vote for Labour.” Everywhere I turn I hear that song, it is just so catchy; you can’t help but sing along.
If the election season could always remain vibrant and full of energy, without the violence, this could be a time that we anticipate every five years, even if only for entertainment purposes.
