Dominican Rain

Sunday, June 26th I woke up at 5am to the beautiful sounds of rain falling on the roof of our family home in Dominica. My heart was joyful as I drew back the curtains and looked at the palm trees swaying gently under the grey Dominican sky. As I listen to the voices of the crickets being taken over by the day birds, and see the impressions God is making in my soul and spirit, I’m feeling blissfully at peace, at one with God, myself and nature. This was how God intended and still does expect us to live, in harmony with Him and what He has created.

As I pondered looking outside at what was taking place before my very eyes in wonder, I was experiencing a serendipitous moment where I witnessed the cleansing of nature through the ‘Dominican Rain’. In order for one to be in sync with the ‘Creator’ and His creation there has to be cleanliness and purity or in other words holiness.

The Dominican rain was washing the trees from the dust and heat of the previous day, it was nourishing the ground so it could bear more fruit, it was cleansing the air for mankind’s needs. God in His holiness wants to live in perfect unity with us, and in order to do so He must cleanse us from everything that prohibits this perfect union.

There are times when the dust, heat which could be viewed as the pressures and pain of life are blinding us to see the next step in our journey and therefore God has to bring the Holy Spirit rain to cleanse us. This rain empowers us to walk confidently with full assurance that our Shepherd is beside us and that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Also, at times like Jesus, we will only learn obedience to God by the things we ourselves must suffer. Yes, it appears unfair that we must go through tribulation but God is the master planner, and the only way that we can bear more fruit in our lives is through pruning and being washed by His rain.

God’s rain also nourishes every single dry area in our lives where it appears that nothing is happening no matter how hard we try. Many times we will suffer ‘Burnout’ when we’ve over extended ourselves but thank God that He will restore our soul in those parched seasons with His rain.

What astounded me as I observed the wind and rain doing their job was that there was no resistance from the trees and the ground. Both remained in their exact spot and received their blessing unequivocally, there were no vexatious statements coming from them, just an acceptance that this must be done in order for their life and growth to continue. We human beings must come to this very same place, because God knows what’s best for us and stop arguing with Him especially through the realm of our feelings as they are fickle. God is never wrong, we are His creation and only know and see in part.

As I breath deeply, listening to the ‘Dominican Rain’ and watch the effects of the wind on the trees, my prayer for all of us on this wonderful Sunday is “come Holy Spirit rain,  cleanse and fill us afresh, blow your wind to remove everything that is not of you from our lives and give us the strength to go through the process of change so that we can live and grow in you,  in Jesus name I pray – Amen.

So until next time, remember you are beautiful and wonderfully made – With love Amanda x
