As usual the Dancehall scene has been busy with new releases almost every day. With the World Boss behind bars some were saying that the genre would suffer, but many artists are still putting out quality music. In the first of his 2012 ‘Dancehall Top 5’ DJ War gives us his favorite January releases (in no particular order). Do you agree? Let us know!

Cham – Wine

An archetypal Dancehall track, the artist formerly known as Baby Cham is back for the ladies. The infectious hook states: “Wine up mi body, mi ah wine up body.” And I’m sure ladies around the world will oblige when this track comes on!

Popcaan – Party Shot

Unofficially titled ‘Ravin Pt 2’ as the follow up to the Gaza artists summer anthem ‘Party Shot’ follows the original Ravin track’s feel good sound and is definitely another tune for the party scene. The Gaza prefect seems to be going from strength-to-strength at the moment and is really maturing as an artist. Do you like this one? Check it out here.

Party Shot!

Mavado – Cyaa Hold Me Again

2011 was a busy year for the singjay! Signing with DJ Khaled’s We The Best Records, legal woes and tension between himself and mentor Bounty Killa didn’t stop Gully God being voted runner-up as Best Singjay of the Year in the Star’s People Choice Awards. 2012 looks like it will be equally busy with speculation surrounding the artistes marriage to his long-term girlfriend. Di Genius produced track ‘Cyaa Hold Me Again’ definitely has a positive vibe, if one is to read into the songs lyrics the singjay is definitely ready to fulfill his potential! Check out the track below.

Vybz Kartel – Me A Pree

WORL’ BOSS! Even behind bars Kartel is making his presence felt, ‘Me A Pree’ which is a track on the Off The Bench Riddim is another positive song. The Star’s Deejay of the Year croons “Ah di Lord Protect Mi head, Nuff Ah Dem Well Wan Mi Dead, Every Night Mi Garn Mi Bed, Mi Haffi Read Ah Psalm Mi Seh.” Take a listen here.

Aidonia – Yuh Can Wine

Dancehall enthusiasts will agree that Aidonia is one of the most talented and consistent artists on the Dancehall scene. This is culminated in the artiste being voted runner-up in The Star’s Deejay of the Year category. Many feel Lord Evil is yet to reach his potential, but solid tracks such as ‘Yuh Can Wine’ remind us why he’s one of the most respected artists on the Jamaican music scene! Listen here.
