All holders of commercial fishing licences and commercial fishing vessel licences issued by the Department of Fisheries and Marine Resources (DFMR) are being asked to visit the Department to renew their licence for the period January 1 to December 31 2012.

The fees for the commercial fisher and fishing vessel licences (per year) are as follows:

Commercial Fisher’s Licence – EC$   50.00; Commercial Fishing Vessel Licence (less than 60 ft) – EC$ 250.00; Commercial Fishing Vessel Licence (more than 60ft) – EC$ 500.00

The Department of Fisheries and Marine Resources is appealing for the cooperation of all commercial fishers and commercial fishing vessel owners in this matter.

By 31 January 2012, it is expected that all commercial fishers and commercial fishing boat owners will be in possession of a valid licence issued by the Department.

Failure to adhere to this request will result in all persons, who are not in compliance with the law, being charged and taken before the Magistrate.

All are being reminded that ‘any person who uses a vessel for fishing, including commercial fishing or sport fishing, unless that vessel is licensed for that purpose, is guilty of an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine of EC$ 50,000.00 or to imprisonment of one month or to both’.
