‘Marley’
The move, in archetypal Marley style is groundbreaking; being the first US movie to be made available on Facebook on the same day as its cinema release. Proceeds from Facebook sales will go to charitable organisation Save the Children whose President and CEO Carolyn Miles said: “We are delighted that awareness of children’s needs will be raised through this innovative effort.”
Bob Marley’s Facebook page has over 37 million ‘likes’ and is thus in the top 20 most popular Facebook pages in the world. Using Milyoni cinema technology, Facebook users will be able to chat with friends, as well as share and tag favourite clips from the film on the day of its release. Preceded by Lionsgate film ‘Abduction,’ which was available on Facebook on the same day as the DVD, Blue-Ray and download release, the Marley Facebook stream will be followed by an even bigger step. Comic flick ‘The Avengers’ will be available earlier on Facebook than in cinemas!
Definitely looks like things are going to change dramatically in the way that we watch new releases and it is fitting that the Marley documentary should be a forerunner in the trend, as after all it is a portrayal of a man who embodied revolution. Do you think you will be tuning in on Facebook? Or will you go the traditional route and head out to the cinema to watch ‘Marley?’ One thing’s for certain I can’t wait to see it!
