There are some islands that are automatically linked to eco-tourism, such as Dominica. Today I want to begin in the most unfamiliar Caribbean setting and like many of our customers you are in for an unexpected surprise and nature treat when you decide to go green in Barbados.
To achieve this you have to move away from the familiar south and west coast so you can experience the spectacular views and hidden gems on the east coast or inland of the island.
Today I want to take you inland to connect with nature on self guided walk amongst the plants, rich culture and natural history at Welchman Gully. Located near the centre of Barbados, in the parish of St. Thomas one of the highest elevated parishes of Barbados.
The Barbados National Trust manage the Gully however it was once part of a plantation owned by a Welshman, General William Asygell Williams over 200 years ago. The gully is ¾ of a mile long and has been developed over the years and there is now a path through the middle of the gully, making this walk accessible.
As you enter the gully you will experience soothing tranquillity as you walk and sit amongst tropical forest and exotic tropical plants. A relaxing experience you will always remember.
