Caribbean news. This weekend Shortwave Cinema saw an influx of Caribbean patrons that come out for the UK premiere of the Barbadian movie Vigilante – The Crossing.

Step by Step Productions, who are also responsible for films such as Chrissy and the Hush series out done themselves with yet another fantastic production that depicted the harsh realities of Caribbean life.

This action filled drama forced the audience to see what they know as paradise in another light. It is no secret that crime is on a rise and not only in the Caribbean but all over the world. Storylines such as the one seen in Vigilante – The Crossing brings such issues to the forefront, sparking conversations and debates on ways to deal with it.

The film industry in Barbados is growing well and the messages in this film are universal”, said a member of the audience. There was an overwhelming atmosphere of pride throughout the crowd “This film was great! The Barbadian film industry will soon be able to rival Hollywood” said another.

The premiere attracted some special guests such as local soca star Ms Desire, Miss Barbados UK 2015 Victoria Small and the Deputy High Commissioner of Barbados Miss A. Wiggins just to name a few.

As the premiere came to a close on Sunday night, there was nothing but great reviews and a strong sense of community. Just as in Los Angeles, the Caribbean and France, Vigilante – The Crossing was a great success here in the United Kingdom.
