Antigua St John’s – Minister of State in the Ministry of Sports Winston Williams says plans are afoot to make Antigua & Barbuda a sporting events destination with the creation and development of a Sports Village.

Minister Williams made the revelation during his contribution to the United Progressive Party (UPP) Media day on the occasion of the Administration’s 8th Anniversary.

The Antigua and Barbuda Sports Village will be in the vicinity of the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium and may comprise of 10-15 facilities.

It is hoped that initiatives such as this will help to place Antigua & Barbuda on the map as the sporting events capital of the region.

Additionally while highlighting his initiatives as the Parliamentary Representative for St. John’s Rural South during the administration’s first term in office, Mr. Williams said he upgraded and created many Sporting Fields and Complexes throughout the island.

In 2009, Williams also created a mission statement for his commitment to his constituency which was ‘A real plan for real people”. He says the whole point of that was to involve the people in the day to day administering of the constituency.

In concluding, Williams offered his re-commitment to St. John’s Rural South Constituency and promises that “service will meet leadership in 2014”.
