Former athlete Dr Rodney Williams has been given another four years as president of Antigua & Barbuda Athletic Association (ABAA).

Williams was re-elected unopposed by what is being described as the largest gathering of members and clubs at any general meeting of the association.

The other members of the executive include Everton Cornelius as first vice president, Relton “Fitz” Braithwaite as second vice president; Calvin Greenaway as third vice president; Judy Blackman as treasurer, and Jo-Anne Small as assistant treasurer.

Ordinary Executive members Peter CuffyTed DaleyRichard LindsayOlivette Michael andCordova Simon were also selected.

The re-elected president is expected to release the name of the individual that will fill the very important position of general secretary during the course of the week. The name of the assistant general secretary will also be released at that time.

During the AGM, Williams delivered the executive report outlining the achievements of the association during its tenure of office, while the treasurer tabled the treasurer’s report.

During a previous interview with The Daily OBSERVER, Williams said his executive would concentrate on resolving the issues of having adequate bathroom facilities in place at the country’s lone track facility.

“We have met with some private persons, people in the construction business, and what they have asked us to do is to come to them with a plan that they can actually see and then they will see what they can do to help us in that regard,” he said.

“In terms of the track and so on, we had approached government with a view of getting some assistance, but that has not been as easily forthcoming as we would have thought,” Dr Williams added.

“But I am trying to get some funding from the IAAF to assist though they do not give funding of the magnitude that would really give us everything that we want. But we feel that if we can get some assistance in that regard from that that it would help us to continue to improve the facilities.”

The athletic association is currently hosting a number of development meets at YASCO Sports Complex, while the nation gets ready for the hosting of the 2012 Coca Cola Inter-Schools Track & Field Meet slated for the upcoming weekend.
