St.
The announcement by Prime Minister Stephenson King has led the island’s governor general to suspend the 17-member Parliament on Monday to make way for the vote.
Five political parties plan to compete, but only the main opposition St. Lucia Labor Party is expected to have a chance at unseating King’s United Workers Party.
It will be King’s first election as prime minister. He assumed leadership in September 2007 following the death of John Compton, who led the United Workers Party to an upset victory in 2006 general elections but died the following year. King’s term was scheduled to end in March.
