6 Habits That Can Boost Your Productivity (And Your Career)

If you are looking to become more productive by the end of the year, you may find yourself at a bit of a loss. Where should you start? What would have the most impact and take the least amount of time?

Well, you’re at the right place. Here is our list of six habits that can boost your productivity and career.

Establish a Morning Routine

The way you start your morning can significantly impact your productivity. A good morning routine can set you up for success or put you in the completely wrong mindset and slow you down.

Here’s what your morning can look like:

  • Set your alarm so that you have plenty of time to do everything without any rush.
  • Make your bed when you get up.
  • Have a glass of water before breakfast.
  • Have breakfast before coffee.
  • Make your breakfast delicious and nutritious.
  • Take a short stroll.
  • Journal or read: do something quiet that will help you arrange your thoughts.
  • Listen to uplifting music you really like.
  • Check your daily task list and make plans for the day.
  • Don’t check your email or read the news as soon as you get up.

Improve Your Sleep

A particularly underrated way to become more productive is to sleep better (and perhaps more).

Sleep tends to be the first thing we sacrifice when we are trying to get more done. We need more time in the day, and so we start to sleep less. However, getting quality sleep would actually make us more focused, creative, and productive, so we would end up needing less time to accomplish our tasks.

Start by getting yourself a great mattress. You can get a king or a California king that will provide plenty of space and comfort. Invest in quality bedding, and make your bedroom an oasis of calm and relaxation.

Eat Better Food

What you eat can directly impact the way you feel. This, in turn, will either make you more productive or more lethargic and moody.

Examine your current diet and how everything you eat is making you feel. Are there foods you know to boost your productivity? How do you feel after eating a lot of sugar? How about after you eat a balanced meal?

Start making small changes in your diet that will make you feel better and allow you to do more. While you may not notice an instant energy increase, you will start to get more done over time.

Take Regular Breaks

Taking a break during the workday can significantly increase your productivity. It gives your mind a chance to recharge and return to the task at hand with more focus and fresh ideas.

Instead of trying to get everything done in one go and thinking of brakes as a disruption or a distraction, find a way to make them work for you.

You can take a walk around the block to get your blood circulating and to breathe in some fresh air. You can do some chair yoga to help your body stretch. You can listen to some music, or you can even consume some content. Just make sure that the break does not end up disrupting your chain of thought, turning into a real distraction.

Clean and Organize Your Space

A tidy house, a tidy mind has become quite a popular catchphrase for good reason. If your workspace is cluttered and filled with distractions, you will not be nearly as productive as you could.

Take a look at your place of work. What needs to be there, and what can you remove? Whether you prefer a minimalist aesthetic or want something warm and cozy, take a look at each item and get rid of everything that does not put you in your desired mindset.

Make sure everything you need is within easy reach. Add some touches of positivity and inspiration. You can design a mood or inspiration board, add a couple of plants, or surround yourself with quotes from your favorite people.

Look for Solutions

When a problem arises, we are often tempted into a negative thought process. Our emotions take over. We get annoyed, irritated, and frustrated.

Instead of jumping straight into the negative, adopt the habit of looking for a solution for any situation. Changing your perspective in this way can make you instantly more productive. If your response becomes to attack an issue head-on, and if you genuinely want to find a solution, you will have no problem rolling up your sleeves and getting right to work.

Wrapping Up

Try out these habits to boost your productivity and get the career you’ve always wanted. It may take some time to adopt them and make them a part of your everyday routines, but with a bit of practice, you can make them work.
