The
While the West Indies has been victorious in the first One Day International (ODI) matches.
But, is anybody really interested in a West Indies/Bangladesh tour. The fact is that the West Indies and Bangladesh are two of the weakest teams in world cricket.
And if West Indies should beat Bangladesh, it will be no big thing. As against if WI should lose to Bangladesh, and then I guess it will be a time of mourning for the fans.
Thus we are seeing where it is only the diehard fans, which are still delusional that the West Indies will one day return to their glory days are watching this series with any real interest.
The ‘other fans’ would have already turned off the television sets and turned their interest elsewhere after the 20/20 defeat to Bangladesh. To lose to a well established team is bad enough, but to lose to a not so established team is pure embarrassment for the fans.
As one philosophically said, “ If a big man beat me, mi good with that, but when a little boy beat me, then mi know that me lose mi manhood.”
The fans that would have stayed away for the first ODI would have missed seeing Lendl Simmons brilliantly scored his maiden ODI century. This is a player that the stakeholders have continually overlooked despite his talent.
Hopefully, he will now be a permanent fixture in the side. And who knows that century may persuade ‘the other fans’ to resume watching the series.
