If I was to ask you what you want out of your life I bet you wouldn’t know how to answer that question. You may look at me with a blank stare wondering what prompted me to ask you that. Many times especially in the western world we stumble through life unfulfilled, feeling frustrated wondering why can’t we just be content with our nice homes, cars, careers, spouses, spiritual life etc..

Could it be that the reason many of us don’t know what we want is because we truly don’t know who we are? After all until we reach  a certain age our life is already mapped out for us by our parents or guardians. How many of us have had the opportunity to take some time out to figure ourselves out? Being a Christian I believe that only God knows the plan for our lives and we should consult Him before embarking on any endeavours then we would be living a life of fulfilment not frustration- Jeremiah 29:11.

Let’s take celebrities for instance, from afar it appears they have every material possession on earth, access to the higher echelons of different societies, with the best looking mate, but yet many are known to have died in very sad and dire circumstances. Later on their loved ones speak about the loneliness they suffered and how they felt that there was nothing left for them to do in life. Therefore, it could be safely assumed that some of  these individuals were not getting what they wanted out of their life despite their material and social wealth.

Are you willing to take the daring step to come off the hamster wheel and find out what you truly want out of your life? Click the Psychology Today link which provides a worksheet to help you make some life changing decisions. Dr. Jennice Vilhauer also explains in this TED TALK the psychological and clinical reasons why we’re not living the life that we want and what we can do about it.

Another way to get what you want out of life is through communication. Less than a month ago, I came to the realisation that I wasn’t getting what I wanted from a certain area in my life, I was miserable but wasn’t sure how to deal with the matter. The party involved genuinely believed they were doing right by me, but I knew different. After a frank conversation they realised how deep rooted my unhappiness was and set things in order to ensure that I was getting what I wanted from the partnership.

I want to encourage you that you only have one life on this earth, don’t waste it, you’re entitled to get what you want from your life and you’re not being selfish. It’s time to live your life to the full, don’t hold back it’s time for you to soar with the eagles.

Until next time, remember you are beautiful and wonderfully made – With love Amanda x
