Home African Caribbean Trinidad sees 5 murders in 24 hours

FIVE men have been murdered within a 24 hour period between Wednesday and Thursday afternoon.

The five killings occurred in north Trinidad, and all died by the gun.

At around 6 p.m. on Wednesday, a man was gunned down while at the basketball courts at Picton Road, Laventille.

On Wednesday night a Valencia mason was shot dead during a robbery in his home.

Joseph Maloney, 31, was shot several times in his head.

At around 11 a.m. a reputed gang leader known and another man, both of Belmont, were slain.

The double killing occurred at Belmont Circular Road.

One of the deceased was identified by his alias “Smeagol”, and the other is yet to be identified.

Police said the reputed gang leader was sitting in a vehicle when the unidentified man approached and shot him.

However, moments later, a vehicle drove alongside the killing and opened fire on the shooter.

The vehicle then sped off.

In the latest incident, at around 2.15 p.m. when gunshots rang out in Jattan Trace, El Socorro.

Police responded and found a man on the street.

He was prononuced dead at the scene.
