The Threat of Blake

The most talked about event in the men’s 100M finals is of course the disqualification of Usain Bolt from the race. The event was only won by Yohan Blake in a mediocre time. Thus, most sports fans ruled out this victory as his good fortune because of the absence of Bolt. That is until he shocked the sporting world with an astonishing time of 19:26 in the 200M at the Diamond League meet in Brussels.  Now, he is being viewed through a different lens by the sporting world.

The men’s top tier of sprints has been dominated for at least three years now by Bolt, Gay and Powell. Thus, will Blake be a new addition to this highly sought after club, or will he have to eliminate someone from the club. I mean there are only three medals on offering at any major championship and someone coming fourth cannot seriously be considered as being part of the top tier. Naturally, the gold medal has been

reserved for Bolt and it is expected that Gay and Powell will fight over who gets the other medals. With the ascendancy of Blake where does he fit in this game, will he be fighting over the minor medals or will he be brave enough to challenge royalty.

What is for sure though is that the men’s sprint events for the upcoming Olympics have just gotten even more interesting. Barring injuries and all the athletes being on top of their games the men’s 100M final should be historically. Oh, I almost forgot another factor and no one jumps the gun…
