The athletes will be accompanied by three officials, and will compete in various track and field events in two categories: Under 20, and Under 17.
St. Kitts-Nevis will be represented in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 4x100m relay (male), high and long jump, shot putt, and javelin.
St. Kitts-Nevis Amateur Athletic Association (SKNAA) Public Relations Officer Evris Huggins told The Observer that coming off a stellar performance at the 2011 games held in Montego Bay, Jamaica, expectations this year are even higher.
“Last year was one of the most outstanding for the Federation, where we had our very first CARIFTA record. That was set by Adrian Williams in the javelin throw,” he said.
According to Huggins, with the caliber of athletes and the level of competitiveness they have displayed at local and other regional meets, the Federation stands poised to medal at the 41st hosting of the regional meet.
Team St. Kitts-Nevis placed eighth out of 26 competing countries, compiling one gold and two bronze medals at last year’s event.
