Trendy nightclub DSTRKT allegedly denied entry to four girls deemed “too dark” last month and is also said to have stopped women coming in because they are “too fat”.
The black actress, 38, who was due to collect the Funniest Female award at the Inside Soap Awards for her portrayal of Kim Hubbard in the BBC show, hinted on Twitter that she might boycott the event.
She wrote: “Looking forward to Inside Soap Awards on Monday. I always enjoy their awards, interviews and photo shoots.
“However. Not sure if I will get into the venue………….. # DSTRKT #DoILookDstrkt.”
A source told the Mirror: “Lots felt uncomfortable but felt a duty to say thank you to their fans, who voted for the winners. It was a really tough decision.
“Tameka resolutely refused to go. Everyone fully accepts her decision.”
Fans of the actress were quick to back Tameka’s decision, with many posting supportive messages on social media.
Laurelle Brown wrote: “@Tameka_Empson respect your D1str1ct decision this week. Nice to know some people in public eye have back bone to stand up for what’s right”, while Zoe Busby tweeted: “@Tameka_Empson so happy for your award and proud that you made a stance, in no doubt a difficult situation”.
The venue in London’s West End has denied allegations of discrimination.
In a statement, it said: “DSTRKT has never operated sexual or racial, discriminatory door policy. Its management and staff abhor racial and sexual discrimination.” Article written by HAYLEY RICHARDSON, courtesy http://www.thesun.co.uk/
