Home African Caribbean Steve McQueen receives Grenada Independence Award

ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, April 1, 2015-GIS: Award winning film producer Steve McQueen has been presented with his Grenada Independence award for outstanding performance in the field of culture.

Culture Minister, Senator Hon. Brenda Hood and Tourism Minister, Hon.Yolande Bain-Horsford  attended a presentation to deliver the award to McQueen at the Kalinago Beach Resort over the weekend.

McQueen, who is of Grenadian parentage, was on the island  to do a video shoot for the upcoming 56th Venice Biennale 2015 International Art Exhibition,  considered to be the oldest, most important and prestigious art event in the world.

The Exhibition focuses on contemporary art, and also includes an International Film Festival, International Architecture Exhibition as well as Dance,Theatre, Music and Cinema sectors.

Grenada, for the first time, will be participating in the Exhibition through the Grenada Art Council. The date for the Biennale is May 9 through November 22.

The other members of the visiting delegation were Grenada Tourism Authority representatives Mr Rudy Grant, CEO, and Ms. Nisha McIntyre, Marketing Executive, also present was Mr. Steve Horsford.
