- The third edition of the ACSIS Exchange webinar series brought powerful focus to reparations, restitution, and justice, calling for bold African and Caribbean leadership in addressing historical injustices and systemic inequalities.
- Participants explored the rising momentum for reparatory justice, informed by recent African Union and Common wealth declarations. Key themes included the intersections of cognitive, environmental, and reparatory justice, framed within the broader context of African liberation.
- Presenters Onyekachi Wambu and Esther Xosei challenged the audience with discussions on the intentional destruction of people, while Dr. Uche Igwe deepened the reflection with critical historical insights. Audience participant Ibukun Adebayo, a restitution expert practitioner acknowledged the impactful work being done and called for greater collaboration across sectors and communities.
- A key discussion point was the Church of England’s £100M Impact Investment Fund—currently stalled due to legal barriers. An African-heritage oversight group has proposed expanding it to £1billion, urging the Church to reckon with its role in the dehumanization of African people and the erasure of their spiritual systems.
- The session concluded with a strong call to action: reparations must centre self-repair, cultural dignity, and grassroots leadership.
The next discussion on Reparations on ACSIS Exchange Webinar will be on Thursday 4th September 2025.
