More than 1200 police and fire officers attended to cast their ballots in this country’s general election ahead of voting by civilians on November 28.
Advance Polling Day was arranged specifically for law enforcement officers whose services would be needed on Election Day to help maintain peace and order.
“…The ballot boxes will be secured until the morning of the general elections when it will be distributed to the areas to which they voted,” Chief Elections Officer Carson Raggie said.
Acting Commissioner of Police Vernon Francois said measures have been taken to ensure the force continues to function as normal.
“We have cancelled all leave for police officers and all hands are expected to be on deck on General Elections Day.”
An estimated 151,734 people are registered to vote in the general election that is being contested by five political parties.
However, only the incumbent United Workers Party and the St Lucia Labour Party are fielding full slates of candidates.
The polls would be monitored by observer teams from the Organisation of American States, the Commonwealth and Caricom.
