MUSIC MAESTRO: Episode 3 – Aima Moses Dominica’s Rising Star

by caribdirect

My ultimate goal is to prosper in this music business while opening the eyes and minds of others through my Rastafarian faith. AIMA MOSES.

Aima Moses is one of Dominica’s most popular and prominent reggae artist. Born on the island of Dominica, Amaziah Moses a.k.a Aima Moses grew up in the village of Kingshill. Aima came from a poor church going family which consisted of three brothers and one sister. Every member of the family contributed to music by singing or playing a musical instrument. http://youtu.be/9qoh-gQwyaw. His closeness to his mother stems from her undying love, understanding and affection towards her children.

Attending the Newtown primary school Aima was a member of the school choir, which further captured his interest in music. While attending high school he participated in a few music contests. He showed real interest in music from high school days when he and his close friend Michael would listen to Caribbean and American music rhythms, then create songs to those rhythms. Realizing that he showed more interest towards music he started visiting record shops on his own like ‘Music Land’ in the town of Roseau, where he would ask for his songs to be recorded with the familiar rhythms.

One of the competitions that Aima participated in included the attendance of Prime Minister, Edison James at the Arawak House of Culture. Startled by the Prime Minister’s presence he had to quickly change his original song so not to offend him for the song contained political content. However, Aima free-styled another song and placed 2nd within the competition.

Aima’s musical inspiration is geared toward the 70s and 80s Pop, Rock, Soul, Jazz, Hip hop, featuring artist like Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, Sade to reggae greats like Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Shabba Ranks, Capleton, among others.

Since the 2004 release of his first album called “No Barriers”, and winning the 2005 “Best Reggae Album’ in the DBS Flamboyant Awards his fan base has just been increasing. He was named “Best Reggae Artist” of 2008. In 2010 he was named Best New Upcoming Artist of the Month by Caribbean Society Media and featured on a 2010 international Reggae Compilation cd called the Mirror Riddim cd, which includes Jamaican artists Lutan Fyah, bushman, Teflon and others.

Aima has been performing in the United States and the Caribbean, in various shows with local and international reggae artists both home and abroad such as Sizzla, Capleton, Tarus Riley, Duane Stephenson Morgan Heritage, Beres Hammond, Beenieman, Movado, Queen Ifrica , Gyptian, Etana, Tanya Stephens, Tony rebel, Eric Donaldson, Lutan fyah, Duane Stephenson, Tanya Stephens to name a few.

Right now Aima is on a small tour of the US and working on new material. He states that “music is a job and must be done responsibly to the best of your ability”.  Aima is making great strides in the music industry as he is now collaborating with Highgradevybz (USA) and Born Free Records (UK) for upcoming tours.

Aima’s music is uplifting, spiritual, powerful, educational, and very cultural which he uses to fight crime, oppression, injustice, and corruption. http://youtu.be/9rDchuIJBbY  He writes and sings wonderful songs expressing his love and respect for the ladies. http://youtu.be/K3YQ89Ug74M Fans can look forward to a continuation of good music and to his electrifying and charismatic performances. http://youtu.be/3bwNSA6Ct6U

Aima also has an interest in pursuing business and agriculture. He currently created a company called “FAHYAH NATION” in his home of Dominica with a childhood friend. The sole purpose of this business venture was to promote fellow music artist from DA, by further exposing them all to be on various shows around the island. It now also serves as a graphic arts & video production company.  www.aimamoses.com

Aima says he sees his music taking him to international status in the future and he is ready for the world. His ultimate goal is to prosper in this music business while opening the eyes and minds of others through his Rastafarian faith. Next on the agenda for Aima is a second album, traveling to promote his music world wide and working on the upcoming World Roots cd.
