The last day of qualifiers at the Barbados Junior International (ITF) Tournament proved to be a day of mixed results.

In the Under-18 Boys second round qualifiers, both Jody Maginley and Shakir Elvin failed to make the cut for a position into the singles main draw which started yesterday with the opening ceremony.

Maginley fell to Francesco Migliano of Italy, 6-4, 6-3, while Elvin was ousted by Shaquille Tayler of The Bahamas, 6-0, 6-3.

In the Under-14 round robin qualifiers, there was a tie in the girls’ competition for the No 1 seed.D’Jeri Raymond was successful in this feat, giving her another day’s rest before playing her first main draw match.

The final round of the boys’ qualifiers saw mixed results for Team Antigua.

Cordell Williams Jr was taken down by Joshua Worme of Barbados, 5-3, 4-1, edging him out  of making the singles main draw.

Williams is the number two seed in the consolation draw, a position which has also earned him a rest day.

Jevannie Ambrose, though failing to win his round two qualifying match, took his round three match in straight sets by defeating Jadon Brome of Barbados, 4-0, 4-0, thus securing his position in the singles main draw.

The main draw play started yesterday for both singles and doubles.
