In essence, everyone is trying to survive this bad economy. And some people are literally willing to do whatever it takes to survive.
Personal Assistants/ Secretaries are the closest people to the managers. They are the ones that make sure that he is aware of important events, meetings and so on.
So, naturally he will become dependent on her. And in some instances their relationship becomes a bit more intimate, which is not surprising because he would have spent more time with her than with his family; assuming that he has a family.
An intimate relationship with her boss will definitely be advantageous for the secretary. In essence, she is securing her job, because it will now be more difficult for her employer to fire her because of their relationship.
And even if he does, because of their relationship she will be in a position to blackmail him. That is if the relationship is revealed to the public; it will be embarrassing for him and his family and he may even lose his employment and prestige in society.
But why is it so difficult for employers to stay away from their secretaries, even though they are aware of the risks that come with such a relationship? Maybe a sense of invincibility comes with the power and prestige that they now enjoy.
But I thought that they would have learnt from Bill Clinton. Oh, maybe this is a bad example after all Monica was not his secretary. And he did keep his employment as the President of the United State of America and his popularity did increase. So, I think I just lost my argument about it being risky by using Bill Clinton as an example.
Let me get back to my original point. It is definitely a plus for a secretary to have an intimate relationship with her employer; not only because of the job security but it is also a sure way to climb up the corporate ladder.
I am not trying to be controversial or immoral, but we have to understand that the corporate world is one where only the fittest survive. And in a jungle, there are no rules and if your only means of survival is for a lion to guide you then… And everyone knows that a lion is a predator.
